Unfortunately, once it has decided that you are typing in a different language, it isn’t always easy to change its mind.
On a side note, in North America, the typical English keyboard layout is US. If you often type in more than one language such as English (Canada) and French (Canada), setup two keyboard languages and use ALT-SHIFT to toggle between the two.

These settings can be found in your Windows Keyboard settings or Windows Regional settings. On top of that, you also need to tell it what language you are typing in. Windows can’t read the labels on your keyboard so it is up to you to tell it what layout you are using.
